ALIMUÇA ARRESTED
Under the order of arrest by the General Prosecutor's Office: theft by fraud on a massive scale,
Along with the former president of Company VEFA, Oliver Leskaj, chief director, and Vangjelica Merkaj were also handcuffed
Vebi Alimuça was arrested at 11 o'clock last night at his home, on Rruga e Elbasanit. He was placed under the arrest order issued by the Tirana Prosecutor's Office in the name of the VEFA, "Silva", and "Kamberi" firms. This was made known by the judge of the proceedings, established by the police that arrested Alimuça, one night before the deadline set for him to be questioned in the first phase by the prosecutor's office. In the arrest order, Alimuça is accused of fraud by theft, of appropriation of assets through fraud, as well as of criminal acts related to the companies VEFA, "Silva" and "Kamberi". Alimuça, detained yesterday, was escorted by Tirana police officers and taken to pre-trial detention. Further investigative actions are under way. Alimuça, who after his arrest was in a serious state of health, was transported to and examined in hospital. Doctors checked him and then he was returned to the pre-trial detention facilities.
The latest developments in this case have also involved Oliver Leskaj, former executive director of VEFA, and Vangjelica Merkaj, who is suspected of having had an organizational role. Kujtim Jervishi and Gjyazim Merja appear in the arrest order as other persons under investigation. According to the Tirana Prosecutor's Office, the actions of the above-mentioned companies are considered linked to the management of funds and unpaid obligations toward citizens. The district chief prosecutor, according to sources, has requested an ускорation of the investigation.
In implementation of the detention order, numerous searches and verifications have been carried out. According to preliminary reports, during the first phase of the investigation documents and evidence regarding the activity of the companies have been collected. Investigators state that the procedures will continue in the coming days.
